Laboratory Presentation

LRGP is a laboratory  affiliated to the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), Institute of Engineering Sciences and Systems, and to the University of Lorraine, hosted in two Engineering Schools in Nancy:

The Laboratory of Reactions and Chemical Engineering develops the scientific and technological knowledge necessary for the synthesis and recycling of materials and functional products, through chemical, physico-chemical and biological processes and the design, the optimization and the control of the elaboration processes and the related transformation of mass and energy.

LRGP is composed of about 300 persons, organized in 5 scientific groups:

1. Chemical engineering for environment, security and resources valorisation
2. Intensification and architecture of processes
3. Bioprocesses - Biomolecules
4. Kinetics and thermodynamics for energy and products
5. Processes for products and materials


Bioprocesses-Biomolecules Team

The Bioprocesses-biomolecules team is active in biochemical engineering including enzyme, microorganisms and animal cell biocatalysts.
In particular, the group has been involved for thirty years in the field of animal cell culture processes. The major achievements are performed with continuous cell lines (CHO, Vero, Sf9...) and mesenchymal stem cells. Its main interest concerns: culture kinetics in various reactor feeding modes, culture media, physiological aspects, protein glycosylation, hydrodynamics, process monitoring. More specifically, the team is recently recognized for its hydrodynamic studies in bioreactors by developing experimental tools and CFD numerical simulation.
​The animal cell culture team includes 5 permanent scientists full or part time, and several Post-docs, PhD and master students. Its facilities include a 100 m2 culture room and analysis rooms, equipped with culture systems at different scales from microplates to 3 L bioreactors and various analytical devices for cells and culture medium characterizations.
